SALEM — The Satanic Temple is reopening its international headquarters in Salem in time for the Halloween season.
The 6-year-old religious organization said Monday’s event comes after the building that first opened in 2016 underwent extensive renovations.
The building currently houses a more than 8-foot-tall bronze statue of the goat-headed idol Baphomet that the organization tried to get placed on the Arkansas state capitol grounds in Little Rock.
Baphomet is back.
The seven-and-a-half foot tall bronze statue, a goat-headed figure with horns and a beard, recently returned from Arkansas to its home in Salem, Massachusetts, in time for the Halloween season and the grand re-opening of the headquarters of the Satanic Temple.
The Bridge Street headquarters underwent renovations and re-opens to the public on Sept. 24. The headquarters, inside a Victorian house built in 1882, houses an art gallery inside and a gift shop.
The Baphomet statue had been in Little Rock as members of the Satanic Temple sought to have next to a Ten Commandments monument on the grounds of the state capitol in Arkansas. Members made a similar attempt on the grounds of the Oklahoma state capitol.
A monument is joining the Baphomet statue: A veterans' memorial, created by Adam Volpe of Pretty Hate Machining, was set to be installed in Belle Plaine, but became part of a legal fight. The website VICE describes the veterans' memorial monument as a "black cube holding an upturned helmet with inverted pentagrams on its sides."
An exhibition, "Moon Magic," will be on display inside the headquarters from Sept. 24 through Dec. 21. The artist, Rebecca Petrie, "explores the sinister veneer of the illumination of the night and colors seen beyond black."
The headquarters also has an exhibit on the history of Satanism.
The headquarters closed at the end of 2017, and the organization worked on the foundation and added a new heating and cooling system, vintage lampposts, and a new kitchen.
Support braces were installed under the floor so the Baphomet statue could be moved inside, instead of sitting out in a shed.
A "Black Mass" ritual will occur at the end of October. An "Unbaptism" ritual and a "Devil's Dinner Party" are also planned.
The headquarters is open Sundays through Thursdays, 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and between 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
